National Apprenticeship Week: Bryndley Jones’ Apprenticeship Journey

National Apprenticeship Week: Bryndley Jones

My name is Bryndley Jones, and I’m currently working towards my Level 3 AAT apprenticeship at TW. I’ve always had a passion for numbers and wanted a career where I could apply that passion in a practical way. An apprenticeship in accountancy was the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on experience while learning the foundations of the profession.

A Day in My Role

A typical day for me starts with bookkeeping, where I reconcile company bank accounts before analysing the data using Xero Workpapers. I then use Excel schedules to document my workings and progress to producing accounts. Once everything is in place, I post the final figures onto IRIS, which structures them into a formal set of accounts. Each day brings a mix of technical skills and problem-solving, making the work both challenging and rewarding.

Skills I’ve Gained So Far

✔️ Confident communication – Especially when meeting new people and interacting with clients
✔️ Professional email writing – Improved clarity and structure in written communication
✔️ Bookkeeping expertise – Reconciling bank accounts and analysing financial data
✔️ Financial software proficiency – Experience with Xero Workpapers and IRIS
✔️ Accounts preparation – Using Excel schedules to document and organise figures
✔️ Teamwork and collaboration – Strengthened through his apprenticeship residential experience
✔️ Problem-solving skills – Applying logical thinking to financial challenges

A Memorable Moment

One of the most memorable experiences during my apprenticeship was attending a residential programme with other apprentices from Hereford and Worcester. It was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen my teamwork and communication skills while participating in activities designed to improve collaboration. It also allowed me to build strong connections with other apprentices in the region.

How TW Has Supported My Development

TW has been instrumental in my development by providing a structured and supportive learning environment. I started in bookkeeping to build a solid understanding of accounting basics and how different systems work. As I gained confidence and expertise, I transitioned into accounts for small companies, where I could further refine my knowledge and skills. Along the way, my colleagues have always been happy to answer questions and guide me through new challenges.

For anyone considering an apprenticeship in accountancy, I highly recommend it. The combination of hands-on experience and structured learning provides a strong foundation for a successful career.
