This quick-fire, three-minute introduction covers everything you need to know about the MTD for IT rollout and the impact it will have on thousands of taxpayers over the next few years.
MTD for IT is the biggest overhaul to tax filing that we have seen in decades.
Whether you’re self-employed, a landlord, or earn other property or business income, understanding MTD for IT is essential to stay compliant.
Learning about it now will help to avoid any last-minute panics when the deadlines kick in.
From April 2026, around 780,000 people earning over £50,000 will be required to follow MTD for IT rules.
A further 970,000 people earning over £30,000 will be brought into scope in April 2027.
That’s a total of 1.75 million individuals who need to start preparing now as those deadlines will come sooner than you think.
