Thorne Widgery looks to future expansion with latest appointments - Thorne Widgery

One of the UK’s most innovative accountancy firms, Thorne Widgery, has announced the appointment of several new members of staff as it looks to future growth.

The firm’s latest appointment is Greg Smith, who joins the firm as a dedicated Payroll Manager from another Midlands accountancy practice.

Working with a wide range of clients, from single director companies all the way up to companies with more than 100 staff, Greg hopes to imbue Thorne Widgery’s wider technology-driven approach into the payroll profession.

“I love what Thorne Widgery are doing with technology at the moment and I want to get involved in this to try and advance payroll provision,” said Greg.

“Most payroll teams are using software that is 10 or more years old, but I want to advance technology in this area to deliver an even better service to clients.”

The firm’s second appointment is Jess Pritchard, who joins as Sales and Marketing Manager. Jess has enjoyed a diverse career, with her previous position seeing her head up the marketing team for one of the UK’s leading builders of luxury sheds, playhouses and treehouses.

A holder of the prestigious ACIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) qualification, her focus is very much on building Thorne Widgery’s brand using new and traditional forms of media.

“I felt like a change and this is a big departure to what I did before in terms of the type of service that the firm provides and its audience, but I can’t wait to take on this new challenge,” said Jessica.

“I see social media playing an important role in our communications in future as it ties in with our wider forward-thinking approach as a firm.”

Jessica is taking over from Diane Sheldon, who will be making a sideways move into a newly created role as HR Manager at Thorne Widgery.

Diane has previously worked and qualified in recruiting, as well as acting as an experienced Office Manager with personnel responsibilities.

She said: “I am really looking forward to my new role within Thorne Widgery. Although I have previously worked in recruitment this is a big transition for me and I am looking forward to supporting the firm and our exceptional team.”

She said that Thorne Widgery’s current focus was recruiting new AAT and ACCA trainees to join their award-winning apprenticeship programme this year.

Lyddia Pearson is the firm’s final recent appoint. She joins the practice as an AAT qualified part-time bookkeeper working out of the both of the firm’s offices in Hereford and Ludlow.

Stephen Smallwood, Managing Director at Thorne Widgery, said: “The recent changes and the creation of new roles at Thorne Widgery reflect our intended expansion as a practice. We are very fortunate to enjoy excellent staff retention and so these latest appointments can only seek to enhance our existing team as we continue to grow.”
