Ben Morgan, an accounts trainee at one of Hereford’s most prominent firms, has been honoured at the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Group Training Association (HWGTA) Apprentice Achievements Awards.

For the last year, Ben has trained and worked with the award-winning team at Thorne Widgery, where he has gained practical experience alongside his formal training with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Group Training Association.

At an award presentation, held at The Courtyard on 13 November 2019, Ben was presented with the Excellence in Accountancy Award for his outstanding approach to his work both in college and in the office.

In his submission for the award, the team at Thorne Widgery said that Ben had a “proven track record of working quietly and methodically” and that he had produced “a first-class year-end portfolio which demonstrates his commitment and focus to the workplace and his professional development”

Ben is currently training towards his Level 3 AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification and is looking forward to further developing his career in accountancy with the firm.

Congratulating Ben, Thorne Widgery’s HR Manager Diane Sheldon, said: “Ben has shown from day one an immense amount of dedication to his role at the firm and his studies. He works extremely hard to ensure our clients receive timely and high-quality services – he should be proud of what he has achieved so far.”

Thorne Widgery has previously been named Apprentice Employer of the Year by the same association for its work helping young people enter the profession and has seen other members of its team celebrated as well.

Daniel Crowther, CEO of Thorne Widgery and a recent recipient of a national award for accounting, added: “Having started in a similar position myself I know how difficult it can be to balance work with studies. Ben has demonstrated that he has what it takes to be a fantastic accountant and advisor.

“We place training at the heart of our practice, which is why we are so lucky to have so many talented members of staff, with a focus on delivering excellent services and innovation to our growing number of clients.”
