Long-serving staff member celebrates 45th year - Thorne Widgery

For the last 45 years, Administration Assistant Jan Stephens has supported our team of accountants and tax advisors.

To celebrate her time at the firm, we held a celebration to highlight her hard work and dedication.

Jan started at Thorne Widgery as a junior shorthand typist in 1974 and then progressed to become a receptionist and secretary to the Directors.

She now works closely with the Tax Department for all their administration requirements and manages all the tax books in progress.

Jan also acts as our events co-ordinator and ensures everything is prepared to a high standard for all of our popular seminars and conferences.

Speaking about her time at Thorne Widgery, Jan said: “The firm has undergone huge changes, but has always remained ahead of the curve. When I first started, everything was done on manual typewriters at our old offices in All Saints Street in Hereford.

“Since then the firm has embraced the technological revolution and is now leading the way in our profession when it comes to digital technology. The systems that we use now are a godsend compared to our original systems in the 70s and 80s, one of which used tapes with holes in it to computerise all accounts jobs in the office.

“I am so grateful to have worked at such a friendly and supportive practice, with such lovely people. I continue to love my job, which is why I have never considered moving since I started.”

Kevin Tong, Thorne Widgery’s longest-serving Director, said: “Jan has done an amazing job and continues to show how dedicated she is to her role. Spending 45 years with the same employer is a rare achievement these days and I think it speaks volumes about the wonderful work culture we enjoy at Thorne Widgery.

“On behalf of all the team at Thorne Widgery, I would like to thank Jan for all her hard work and look forward to seeing what else she can achieve during her career.”
