The times, they are changing

Despite being a forward-thinking firm, it never hurts to look book at the past. With more than 75 years in practice we have certainly seen a fair few changes to the world of business and to our profession.

We have been digging through our archives to see what changes have taken place during this time and how clients have benefitted.

Our Founders

These two kindly looking fellows were the founding partners of our practice, who were rightly proud of our connection to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Not much has changed when it comes to our expertise, “no-one is better qualified to give expert and impartial advice” than our team.

Paper to spreadsheet to paperless

This photo highlights the once onerous task of managing a company’s tax and accounting compliance. Paper records were king and notes made in ledgers were essential.

Then we moved to the era of the spreadsheet, but in many cases, we were still printing documents and submitting them via post.

Now we have entered a paperless age where new technology means we can complete and file documents electronically to HMRC with the assistance of software and in the near future AI may revolutionise our industry further.

In this new era, we are moving away from number crunching and more to what we do best – building relationships and providing added-value advice.

Digital innovation

We have always been ahead of the curve when it comes to digital systems as you can see. However, it would be fair to say that the systems that we use now are a little more advanced than the ones on display here.

At Thorne Widgery, we are rightly proud of our heritage, but our focus remains on the future. To find out how you can benefit from our futuristic approach to finance, why not get in contact with us today.
