Peter is particularly experienced in the intricacies of VAT having been involved with this tax since its introduction in the early seventies. His concern is that some businesses take action before they take advice (when it should be the other way around!) and as a consequence fail to fully appreciate how their actions can influence their VAT position, until perhaps it’s too late.

Kevin has developed a particular interest in corporate accounting and therefore deals principally with Thorne Widgery’s large agricultural sector, and larger commercial clients. Kevin prides himself on providing his clients with pro-active advice on financial business management and offering ways of maximising available tax benefits and opportunities.

Vanda has been providing her expertise in the field of tax and estate accountancy at Thorne Widgery for over 15 years. During this time she has developed a great degree of trust and respect, which is vital when dealing with what are often complex personal financial affairs of her many long-standing clients.

Alison specialises in the provision of payroll bureau services to many of Thorne Widgery’s clients. She explains. “The service completely removes the head-aches of calculating the monthly pay roll from my clients, allowing them to get on with their first priorities of growing their businesses and satisfying their customers.”

Andy joined Thorne Widgery in 2006 from the corporate division of Barclays Bank, where he spent 25 years. For the last 14 of those, he had been helping business that typically had a turnover of between £1m and £25m. He brings with him a wealth of experience as a Senior Corporate Manager, and is now an integral part of our strategy to deliver added value, forward looking initiatives to our clients and prospects alike.

Jo is a qualified accountant who has also spent a numbers of years working in industry and so has a real understanding of the day to day challenges that the majority of our business clients will face. With regard to business problems, she’s probably “been there done it” and is a real advocate of “business process systems”. A genuine asset to our team.

Sara’s role is to make Stephen’s life as MD easier and assist him in his role as HR Director. Her role as Admin Team Leader is to ensure that all admin requirements for the company are met and that the team is happy! Sara has been with Thorne Widgery for 16 years and enjoys the challenge of organizing Steve!

Chris manages his client portfolio as well as acting as the main contact with a proportion of the Director’s client portfolio. Chris uses various accounting packages whilst preparing accounts including Sage, MYOB and QuickBooks. He gives business advice as well as tax and accounting advice in his role and aims to be as approachable and flexible as possible in order to meet his clients needs.

Jerry joined the Thorne Widgery team in September 2003. Alongside Vanda Williams, he manages the day to day running of the Tax Department. Jerry is currently co-manager of the Tax Planning Team and assists clients with all types of tax, specialising in Personal and Corporate.

After working at Thorne Widgery for the past 7 years Dan's work primarily involves larger corporate clients, whilst also effectively servicing the needs of his own client portfolio. Providing support to clients on computerised accounts packages is Dan’s particular area of expertise, as well as producing valuable management accounts for larger clients.

Sam Jones MAAT, Accounts Technician

Sam began at Thorne Widgery in August 2005 aged 16 and joined the AAT programme at Level 2 through Hereford Group Training Association. Sam’s studies have culminated in his winning the award for “Excellence in Accounting” at the end of his second year of studies. Sam prepares the preliminary review accounts, for final review. He recommends what action should be taken by the juniors and highlights areas to be reviewed by the Managers.

Neil began working at Thorne Widgery in July 2006, joining from HerefordSixth FormCollege. Neil achieved the AAT qualification and is continuing his studies with the ACCA qualification. Neil prepares the Statutory Accounts, VAT Returns, Auditing and assists with general accounting queries.

Elaine joined Thorne Widgery in 2006 and has 10 years experience within payroll processing. Elaine oversees the running of the Payroll Department which includes Janice Fraser and Hayden Russell. She processes and completes the necessary paperwork for the end of year forms and will help answer any queries you may have relating to Payroll, including Maternity, Paternity and Sick Pay.
